Halloween Cider Cocktail


Combine cider and something scary, and you’ve got a damn seasonal cocktail that’s perfect for fall and Halloween. That’s exactly what’s happening here with the Angry Spell, a cider-spiked drink courtesy of Angry Orchard and mixologist Jeremy Oertel.

It follows the classic El Diablo template (tequila, lime, ginger, creme de cassis), but swaps out tequila for white rum, and subs in cider for ginger beer. Here’s how you make it.

The Angry Spell Cocktail Recipe

4 oz Angry Orchard Crisp Apple
1 oz white rum
0.75 oz lime juice
0.5 oz ginger syrup*
0.5 oz crème de cassis or crème de muir

Add rum, lime and ginger syrup to a shaker with ice. Shake then strain into a Collins glass with fresh ice. Top with cider and crème de cassis. Garnish with lime wheel and blackberries.

*Ginger Syrup

1 cup Finely Chopped Fresh Ginger
2 cups Sugar
2 cups Water

Peel the ginger and then finely chop. Add all ingredients to the pot and bring to boil. Allow to cook for two minutes, then remove from heat and let steep for 20 minutes. Strain syrup through a fine strainer. Keep refrigerated.
