The Absinthe Frappé is a classic, refreshing absinthe drink that’s great for cooling down on a hot summer day, and it makes for a more straightforward alternative to the traditional method of absinthe preparation with an ice-water drip. It packs a bit of a punch simply due to the high proof of most absinthes, but the crushed ice and water take the edge off of the strongest flavors. If you want a bit of effervescence, you can use soda water instead of still water—just make sure to add it after you shake.
|1-1.5 oz absinthe|
|0.25-0.5 oz simple syrup|
|1-2 oz chilled water or soda water|
Preparation: How to make an Absinthe Frappé
- Add all ingredients (except soda water if you're using it) to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until chilled.
- Strain into an absinthe glass filled with crushed ice.
- If using soda water, top with soda.
- Top with more crushed ice and serve with a straw.
