The Blood and Sand is a cocktail that always inspires debate among bartenders. Named for Rudolph Valentino's 1922 bullfighter movie Blood and Sand, it consists of a fairly perplexing combination of scotch, sweet vermouth, Cherry Heering, and orange juice in equal parts.
Though it certainly sits among the classics, the Blood and Sand isn't exactly a well-balanced drink as originally written. Many modern bartenders have tweaked it, adding and removing ingredients here and there to find the sweet spot. But if you're looking for the unadulterated recipe, look no further.
