Blood Sucker Recipe

The Blood Sucker cocktail is a fun Halloween drink that’s made to look like it’s dripping with gore—but don’t worry, it’s just berry puree! The base recipe is simple, calling for orange-flavored rum (spiced rum or regular white rum works fine too), Cointreau, and pineapple juice, but the real fun comes with the addition of raspberry or strawberry puree. To get the right effect, stick a drinking straw into the puree, then place your finger over the opening and dribble it down the inside edges of the drink. The Blood Sucker will have you growing fangs in no time…

1.5 oz orange-flavored rum
0.5 oz Cointreau
2 oz pineapple juice
0.5 oz raspberry or strawberry puree

Preparation: How to make a Blood Sucker

  1. Add rum, Cointreau, and pineapple juice to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until chilled.
  2. Strain into an Old-Fashioned glass over fresh ice.
  3. Drip raspberry or strawberry puree along the inside edge of the glass (using a drinking straw), where it will form blood-like blobs, and serve without stirring.
