Genever Old-Fashioned Recipe

Genever, Orange Bitters, Sugar Cube, Orange Twist
Genever Old-Fashioned
A variation on the Old-Fashioned featuring genever, the predecessor of modern gin originating in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Genever Old-Fashioned Ingredients

2 oz Bols barrel-aged genever
2 dashes orange bitters
1 sugar cube
Orange twist

How to make a Genever Old-Fashioned

  1. Add sugar cube, two dashes of orange bitters, and a few drops of water to the bottom of an Old-Fashioned glass, then muddle until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Add 2 oz of Bols barrel-aged genever.
  3. Add one large ice cube. The best ones barely fit inside the glass.
  4. Stir until chilled.
  5. Finally, cut a slice of peel from a fresh, firm orange using a vegetable peeler or paring knife. Aiming the cut side over the surface of the drink, twist it to squeeze out a mist of essential oils, then drop it in the glass.
