A crisp and refreshing cocktail, the Grapefruit Crush is a delight on warm summer afternoons. This riff on the Orange Crush blends both grapefruit juice and lemon juice for a nice, citrusy tartness that’s smoothed out by the simple syrup, with the soda water giving it just the right amount of brightness.
Frequently served in a collins glass with a straw, our preferred way of enjoying the Grapefruit Crush is in an old-fashioned glass.
|2 oz vodka|
|1 oz Grand Marnier or other orange liqueur (optional)|
|4 oz fresh grapefruit juice (about 2 grapefruits, juiced)|
|1.5 oz fresh lemon juice (about 1 lemon, juiced)|
|0.5 oz simple syrup|
|1 splash soda water|
|1 sprig mint|
Preparation: How to make a Grapefruit Crush
- Pour all ingredients except soda into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake vigorously, and strain into a cocktail glass filled with ice.
- Top with a splash of soda, and garnish with a sprig of mint (optionally, can substitute mint with either a grapefruit peel or slice).
