The Irish Coffee is a perfect drink for when you need to wake up halfway through a long night, or kick yourself out of bed and fight off a hangover. It’s an exceedingly simple cocktail, consisting of just Irish whiskey, coffee, a bit of brown sugar simple syrup, and some optional unsweetened whipped cream (preferably homemade). The Irish Coffee was, unsurprisingly, invented in Ireland in the 1940s. It came to America by way of San Francisco’s Buena Vista Cafe in the early 1950s, and has been associated with the City by the Bay ever since.
