This Kamikaze recipe is a fairly old-school drink that can be served either in a cocktail glass or as a shot. It's more or less like a Margarita made with vodka instead of tequila, and if you want to class it up a bit we recommend using Cointreau instead of a standard triple sec. And if you use citrus vodka and a splash of cranberry juice, you've got yourself a Cosmopolitan!
By some accounts (notably that of cocktail historian Dave Wondrich), the Kamikaze shot was the original shooter. According to his research, it was invented in 1976, making it one of the true "disco cocktails" of that oh-so-maligned era. Compared to some of its contemporaries, though, the Kamikaze is a downright sophisticated drink, and it's certainly salvageable if you know what you're doing.
