An Old-Fashioned variation from south of the border that features reposado tequila and mezcal in a delicious, smoky mixture.
1.5 oz reposado tequila
.5 oz mezcal joven
2 dashes Angostura or mole bitters
1 tsp agave nectar
1 large ice cube
1 slice orange peel
Preparation: How to make an Oaxaca Old-Fashioned
- Add agave nectar and bitters to the bottom of an Old-Fashioned glass.
- Add tequila and mezcal.
- Add one large ice cube. The best ones barely fit inside the glass.
- Stir until chilled.
- Cut a slice of peel from a fresh, firm orange using a vegetable peeler or channel knife. Aiming the cut side over the surface of the drink, twist it to squeeze out a mist of essential oils, then drop it in the glass.
