South of No North

A delicious coffee cocktail from Tacoma, Washington bartender Chris Langston, the South of No North is a delicate, silky drink with a healthy dose of joe to round things out. Made with reposado tequila, Cynar artichoke liqueur, simple syrup, coffee, and egg white, it’s a bizarre-sounding combination that ends up being surprisingly cohesive.


1.5 oz reposado tequila
0.5 oz Cynar artichoke liqueur
0.5 oz simple syrup
1 oz cold coffee
1 egg white

Preparation: How to make a South of No North

  1. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker without ice and dry-shake (hard) for 30 seconds or so.
  2. Add ice to the shaker and shake until chilled.
  3. Double-strain into a chilled cocktail glass and serve.
