A variation on the Old-Fashioned cocktail concocted by Robert Simonson, illustrious author of The Old-Fashioned, that uses a bit of Fernet-Branca to keep this classic interesting.

The Bartender Ingredients

2 oz Buffalo Trace bourbon
0.25 oz Fernet Branca
1 sugar cube
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Lemon twist

How to make The Bartender

  1. Muddle sugar, bitters, and a few drops of warm water in an Old-Fashioned glass.
  2. Add bourbon and Fernet.
  3. Add a large chunk of ice and stir until chilled.
  4. Twist lemon peel over the drink and drop it in.
