The Washington Apple Shot is a popular club drink made with Canadian whisky (usually Crown Royal), sour apple liqueur (usually DeKuyper Sour Apple Pucker), cranberry juice, and an optional splash of lemon-lime soda. It’s a fun, if somewhat unsophisticated drink, and likely enjoyed its peak popularity in the 1990s nightclub scene.
The ingredients in a Washington Apple Shot don’t allow a lot of room for “classing up,” as you probably don’t want to waste your top-shelf stuff on a shooter, but you’re welcome to give it a shot (ha!). Any Canadian whisky will do, but an American rye will also work, and you can use a nicer apple liqueur (or even an apple brandy) that doesn’t have so much artificial sweetness. That said, the Washington Apple might just be best the way it is—a party drink that doesn’t try to be something it’s not.
