Amarula is a cream liqueur made from the marula fruit, which is a small, yellow fruit indigenous to South Africa. That fruit is hand-picked, fermented and double distilled–first in column stills and then in copper pots. It's then aged for two years in French oak barrels before being blended with fresh cream and bottled.
Surprisingly, Amarula is the second best selling liqueur in the world, after Bailey's Irish Cream. Though if you're unfamiliar with the product, that's because the vast majority of those sales occur overseas.
