Pusser’s Rum, slang in the Royal Navy for “purser,” or supply officer, is based on the recipe that used to be rationed to British sailors until the policy was discontinued in the 1960s. Pussers Rum Ltd. revived the formula in 1979 and began selling it as a retail product.
It’s a somewhat divisive rum, deserving of high acclaim or derision depending on who you ask. We certainly don’t mind it. According to F. Paul Pacult’s Spirit Journal review, though, “no wonder the British Navy fell into disrepair.” Ouch.
