Ron Zacapa 23 Year Old

Ron Zacapa 23 Year Old is a solera-aged rum produced in Guatemala. Unlike many other rums, which are produced from darker grades of molasses, Ron Zacapa uses light molasses as its base (which their marketing materials refer to as “sugar cane honey,” despite that being a pretty meaningless term).

The solera aging process is a method of Spanish origin (or potentially Portuguese, depending who you ask) that involves blending spirits of different ages by transferring them from barrel to barrel over the course of their maturation. It’s more commonly used for sherries, wines, and brandies, but can be used for everything from rum to beer.
