Ron Zacapa XO Rum is an extra-old solera-aged rum produced in Guatemala, made from a blend of rums aged 6-25 years. It is the brand’s premium expression, aged in ex-cognac French Limousin oak barrels, making it a wonderfully subtle, complex sipping rum.

The solera aging process is a method of Spanish origin (or potentially Portuguese, depending who you ask) that involves blending spirits of different ages by transferring them from barrel to barrel over the course of their maturation. It’s more commonly used for sherries, wines, and brandies, but can be used for everything from rum to beer.
