Venus Spirits El Ladrón Añejo is the distillery’s aged agave spirit. The blue agave is harvested, crushed, and cooked in Jalisco, Mexico, but it is then shipped to Venus’ Santa Cruz, California facility where it is fermented and distilled. The Añejo is then aged in new and used whiskey barrels for 12 months. Because it is not produced entirely in Mexico, it can’t be legally called a tequila, but it nonetheless has done an excellent job of capturing the flavors we’ve come to love from agave spirits. Thanks to the small first batch, El Ladrón Añejo is currently only available at the distillery itself, one bottle per person.
Santa Cruz distillery Venus Spirits, founded by Sean Venus, began their operations in 2014. They’ve since developed an impressively diverse line of products, offering everything from barrel-aged gin, aquavit, and agave spirits to bourbon and single malt whiskey.
