Absolut Elyx Vodka is Absolut’s premium product, distilled from winter wheat (grown no more than 15 miles away from the distillery) on a copper column still dating back to 1921. According to the distillers, the process has been honed to give it a distinctly silky mouthfeel and clean smoothness, and critics seem to think they’ve succeeded. Absolut Elyx was named Best Vodka at the 2013 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Absolut uses Elyx to showcase its commitment to sustainability, with a 100% carbon-neutral process and a relatively closed loop of waste stillage and fertilizer for their estate-grown winter wheat. The marketing for Absolut Elyx suggests that drinks made with it be served in a copper pineapple, available as part of a $140 gift set. It’s a bit ridiculous, but Absolut admits as much, saying “it serves as the perfect reminder that even the most seriously delicious vodka shouldn’t be taken too seriously.” We can appreciate that.
