Stolichnaya Vodka (also known as Stoli) is a massively popular Russian vodka, and a nicely affordable one at that, retailing for just about $20 per 750 ml bottle. It’s distilled from a combination of wheat and rye, giving it a moderately sweet, grainy flavor on the midpalate that’s more complex than its price tag would lead you to expect. Since the fall of the Soviet Union, Stolichnaya Vodka has been produced by two companies who are constantly arguing over who owns the rights to the spirit: Russian state-owned FKP Sojuzplodoimport produces it for the Russian and Benelux market, and Luxembourg-based SPI Group distributes it to most of the rest of the world.
