Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon is the brand's flagship product, though they do offer a more standard 81-proof bourbon as well. Because it comes out of the barrel at just 109 proof, though, the distillers claim that Wild Turkey 101 is truer to its natural flavor profile than a whiskey that needs to be diluted significantly with water. This is a good, affordable bourbon, and we've particularly enjoyed it in the Thanksgiving cocktail Turkey and Sage.
Established in the 1940s, Wild Turkey is a bourbon brand produced in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and has long been a stop on the famous Bourbon Trail. Though the distillery was founded in the late 1800s, the Wild Turkey brand wasn't introduced until the 1940s. Reportedly, one of the distillery executives thought of the name when he took some of their bourbon on a turkey hunting trip.
