The Macallan 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch is a highly-regarded Speyside whisky (see this Macallan 18 review), and one of the older expressions from The Macallan distillery. This bottle is part of the brand's sherry cask-aged range of scotches (as opposed to their Fine Oak range), and is aged for its entire life in Spanish sherry casks. The Macallan 18 is a lovely, mature whisky that offers quite a bit more complexity than its younger counterparts, though it is fairly pricey.
The Macallan Distillery is one of the most famous Speyside distilleries, located near the River Spey in northeastern Scotland. It is notable for the fact that it grows its own barley, which is a rarity among scotch distilleries, and as of 2009 was the third best-selling single malt scotch in the world.
