Yamazaki 12 Year Old is a popular single malt Japanese whisky. It’s one of the younger expressions from Yamazaki, but nonetheless offers an impressive profile with notes of peach, citrus, spices, and the vanilla-tinged roundness of Mizunara oak. Like most Japanese whiskies, Yamazaki 12 is best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of cold water, but it can also be used in simple, spirit-forward whisky cocktails (as long as you don’t mind messing with such an expensive whisky).
Yamazaki distillery, located in Osaka Prefecture, opened in 1923 as Japan’s first commercial whisky distillery. Their spirits have won numerous international awards, including a veritable mountain of medals from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition over the years. While pricey, Yamazaki has certainly earned its place among the most revered Japanese whiskies.
