Superbueno Is the Best Bar in the United States–According to 50 Best

Each year, the World’s 50 Best organization ranks the top bars and restaurants, which makes for a handy list when you’re traveling around the globe—or exploring your own city. Those rankings include the annual North America’s 50 Best Bars. The new list just landed with all the best cocktail joints in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Handshake Speakeasy in Mexico City snagged the number one spot, while Superbueno in New York finished second. Overstory and Martiny’s, both in New York, ranked third and fourth, while Rayo in Mexico City took fifth.

It’s quite the showing for Superbueno. The East Village bar has only been open for one year but has clearly left a good impression on the panel of judges.

“When we opened Superbueno just a year ago, our team was inspired to provide New York with our distinct perspective of Mexican hospitality rooted in heritage and community,” said the bar’s co-owner, Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Jimenez. “This recognition from North America’s 50 Best Bars speaks to how the Superbueno experience has resonated with guests thanks to the amazing work our team has done from day one. We’re thrilled that our bar feels like a home to so many.”

Superbueno was born out of a partnership between Cocktail Kingdom Hospitality Group and Jimenez, a veteran New York bartender and hospitality pro. The cocktail menu features drinks inspired by iconic Mexican dishes and ingredients, such as the bestselling Green Mango Martini (tequila, mango eau de vie, sauternes, green mango, honey), the more-interesting-than-expected Vodka Y Soda (vodka, guava, pasilla, soda), and the earthy Mushroom Margarita (mezcal, cointreau, huitlacoche, lime, lava salt).

The 2024 ranking comes from a group of 270 anonymous academy member voters, made up of cocktail experts, educators, authors, journalists, bartenders, and bar owners from across North America. See the full list below.
