excellia blanco tequilaExcellia Tequila makes a range of tequilas in the highlands of Jalisco. Each is unique within the category for its maturation process, in which both Sauternes wine casks and Cognac barrels are employed to age the spirits. Even in the case of the Blanco, the tequila isn’t bottled straight from the still. Instead, it sees a few weeks in wood, which yields a soft, balanced and delicate tequila.

On the nose, Excellia Blanco Tequila is full of agave, but it’s not as bright and brash as many blancos. It’s soft and creamy, almost like an agave-based dessert. In the mix you’ll also find some hints of sweet vanilla and buttery toast. Take a sip and you’ll find more soft agave — plus some mild spice, floral notes and something reminiscent of creme brulee.  It’s exceedingly smooth on the palate, and it finishes clean and dry.

That’s one easy-drinking blanco. You won’t find the robust vegetal notes and spicy pepper present in many tequilas. But its soft agave, creamy sweetness and smooth finish make it a great candidate for sipping neat and exploring the subtle nuances achieved from its short time in wood.
