Senor Rio is a relatively new tequila that’s slowly expanding across the U.S. Each expression – blanco, reposado and anejo – is distilled from 100% blue weber agave cultivated in the lowlands of Jalisco, Mexico.
Senor Rio Blanco Tequila
Senor Rio Blanco is crystal clear with an intense, vegetal nose of agave. Flavors range from sweet vanilla to peppermint and spice. The mouthfeel is a bit watery, and the peppery finish is quick and clean. $45
Senor Rio Reposado Tequila
Six months in white oak gives this tequila some color, plus an oaky aroma mingling with the upfront agave. Take a sip to taste more agave, plus some vanilla and caramel. At just six months, the oak is very present, but it’s the agave that dominates the flavor. Some spice nuance plays in the background, and the body is full and lush. It finishes long and spicy. $65
Senor Rio Anejo Tequila
The anejo is aged for a year in oak before being bottled. It’s lighter in color than many anejos, but the oak is very noticeable in the smooth aroma. Flavors include vanilla and lots of caramel, with the agave more muted in this expression than the others. The mouthfeel is rich and silky, and on the palate the Senor Rio Anejo is the smoothest of the three. $75
Each expression of Senor Rio Tequila clocks in at 80 proof (40% ABV). It’s currently available in California, Oregon, Arizona and Tennessee.
