The Super Bowl cocktail recipes have been rolling in. Some are green and yellow; some are black and gold. Most are, on paper at least, pretty disgusting. And some have seemingly nothing to do with either team or football in general.
Here are a few of the better cocktails for Super Bowl Sunday. You’ll need something to celebrate victory or drown defeat. Or wash down those five dozen hot wings you ate before kickoff.
Donald Screwdriver
1.5 ounces Russian Standard Vodka
3.5 ounces orange juice
1 dash fresh lemon juice
This isn’t the most compelling drink, but kudos for the name. In a highball glass, combine vodka, orange juice, lemon juice and ice. Stir well and garnish with an orange twist.
Green Bay Margarita
1 1/2 ounces Herradura Reposado Tequila
3/4 ounce Fresh lime juice
10 mint leaves
1/2 ounce simple syrup
4 1-inch cubes of fresh pineapple
Mint is green, and pineapple is yellow. Got it. Muddle pineapple and mint in shaker. Add ice and all liquid ingredients. Shake then strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Black & Yellow Mule
2 ounces Russian Standard Vodka
5 ounces ginger beer
Wedge of lime
2 blackberries
Candied ginger
Muddle two blackberries in a chilled copper mug or Collins glass. Add ice and two ounces of vodka. Top with five ounces of ginger beer, and stir. Garnish with a squeezed wedge of lime and candied ginger.
Rodgers En Fuego
2 1/2 ounces Flor de Caña 7 year rum
1/2 ounce maple syrup
2 dashes liquid smoke
Salt
Baby corn
No idea what the association is here, other than corn is yellow. Either way, add Flor de Caña, maple syrup and liquid smoke to shaker. Shake, then strain into rocks glass with salted rim. Garnish with baby corn.
