The World’s 50 Best Bars are in, and we have a new winner: London’s Dandeylan. Each year, the UK-based group puts out this annual ranking of bars, which is voted on by more than 500 drinks experts across the globe. As usual, London and New York cleaned up, with 10 and six spots on the list, respectively.
In a strange twist of fate, Dandelyan won just two days after announcing that it would be closing and reopening as a new concept in 2019. On Instagram, bar owner Ryan Chetiyawardana (better known as Mr. Lyan) said: “There’s so much I think we can do, and so much we want to challenge, discuss and create in this industry,” that “it makes sense to burn it down, start fresh, and rise again as something brighter, shinier and more fitting of where we’re all now at.”
