bacardi oakheart spiced rumThis week Bacardi Rum announced the launch of Oakheart, its first entrant into the spiced rum market. This is a big announcement for the rum giant, which now offers rums across all categories – traditional, flavored and spiced.

Bacardi Oakheart is created with a blend of rums mellowed in charred American white oak barrels. From there, spices including maple, cinnamon, nutmeg, honey and vanilla are added. The result is what the company calls

…a bold, spiced rum straight from the heart of charred oak barrels with an amber hue, a hint of smokiness and unique velvet-like smoothness.  Rich and oaky on the nose, with hints of smoke and dried fruit, this exceptional spiced rum has a robust flavor that stands up to any challenge. Slightly sweet and peppery with a noticeable rum-kick, Bacardi Oakheart tastes great straight or combined with cola and served over ice in a chilled stein glass.

The Oakheart name was developed in collaboration with thousands of consumers and hundreds of bartenders. More than 2,700 names were considered before Oakheart was selected, a process that took more than two years.

Bacardi Oakheart will be available nationwide this September  at a suggested retail price of $12.99 for a 750-ml bottle.

I love this rum. It’s mellow. Captain Morgan’s spice is a little overpowering like cheap perfume or cologne in my opinion. Here’s a great mix to try. Get Sparkling Ice, orange/mango flavored spring water. It’s 3% fruit juice with aspartame. Mix it three parts to one part Oakheart over ice. The lemon/lime Sparkling Ice mixes well too – but the orange/mango tropical truly complements and enhances the Oakheart flavors.

    Try it with Dr.Pepper
Beautiful drink that will last all night

I just tried a bottle tonight. I wanted some Captain Morgan’s to mix with some egg nog, but it was so darn expensive. Oakheart was on sale for $9.99 so I decided to give it a try. Poured a 1/2 shot when I got home and was blown away. I can’t bring myself to waste it mixing with egg nog. I have some cheapo generic dark rum I can use for that. Enjoying some Oakheart on the rocks as we speak. For the price it can’t be beat.

I love oakheart! I’m usually a fan of just coke & rum, but this stuff mixed with sweet tea, is a party in a glass! I absolutely love how smooth it is, but still has a hint of that classic rum taste. Good job bacardi! 🙂

I’m not a traditional rum drinker, but was given a bottle by a friend. This stuff is a very deep flavored rum. You can drink it straight, if you’re a whiskey drainer like me. Not sure standard rum drinkers will appreciate it. This stuff has a deep oakiness, and a full flavor that I would expect from an old, old bottle from the islands. this is pure, unadulterated bliss. I’ve already ordered my first case. Mr Beam and your red stag will need to take a hiatus.

  • Vicky says:

It tastes absolutely nothing like Captain Morgan or Morgan’s Spiced as it is called here in the UK. Tastes great! Try adding 7 up or Sprite as a mixer or Triple Sec, Sprite, Orange Juice and a splash of Grenadine …… fabulous!

  • thomas says:

I have tried many bottles of Oakheart and find it much better than morgans.

  • sparky says:

I just finished off my first bottle of Bacardi Oakheart. I would definately buy it again. It is smoother than ” the captain “. I drank it with diet Pepsi, but I would like to try it again with ginger ale.

  • Jay says:

this is a smooth and very tasteful rum I mixed it with Ginger Ale and it was just perfect just might be a drink of chioce for me

  • Joey says:

This is bomb stuff. Taste great and kept the party going all night

  • andy says:

this stuff is the best… good job.

  • Audrey says:

This is one beautiful smooth drink!

You say that Oakheart is the first Bacardi entrant in the spiced rum market but that is not true. Oldtimers like me remember that in the 90’s Bacardi made a spiced rum called Bacardi Spice. The original recipe for that rum was quite good (much like Oakheart) but after a few years I noticed a change in the flavor to more closely resemble Captain Morgan (which I really don’t like). After the change in the flavor, Bacardi Spice apparently stopped selling and it was discontinued and you couldn’t find it, not even in the gift shop of the Bacardi Rum Factory in San Juan, P.R. which I have visited several times. Oakheart’s flavor takes me back to the flavor of the original Bacardi Spice. It is quite good.

I tried Oakheart on Christmas. One of my family members had brought it to the family gathering for everyone to try. It was amazing! I think Bacardi will give Captain Morgan a run for their money.

  • Keith M says:

Okay so Rum and Coke is my go to drink, and this is my new favorite rum!! This oakheart is smooth and sweet… excellent!!

  • Preston says:

Got tired of paying $19.00/bottle for Captain Morgan Private Stock and got a bottle of Oakheart for $12.44 and tried it out. Bluuuaaaaaaggg!!! Oakheart is godd for mixing but it is not a sipping rum, as I had hoped for. back to captain Morgan Private Stock for me. I am a sipper and not a mixer and the Captain’s private Stock can take on the $40/bottle sipping rums with no sweat. Suggest you rum runners try it out.

  • QUINN says:

Still digging the el Capitan. Butt I’ve been a Rum Running for a couple of decades. This new taste from my beloved Bacardi is a great new addition to my little home bar. Thanks for the great new flavor. Even my wife, Jantastic, is getting into the spirit.

  • brad says:

Brad says try it with MT. Dew so good.

  • Richard says:

I bought a sampler bottle a few weeks back to try it out. Drank it straight (in a proper glass of course) and fell in love with this. Got myself a full bottle tonight. Pretty sure I will try some of the mixing suggestions mentioned but I prefer to enjoy this like my whiskies… straight!

  • Michiel says:

Very nice spiced rum, much smoother than Cpt. Morgan. Maybe even a bit too smooth, because the taste of alcohol is very low in this rum because of its sweetness and I like a bit of ‘spirit’ in a rum. In a mix with some coke or pepsi and a tiny drop of lemon juice it’s very tasty, much better than Cpt. Morgan in my opinion. My girlfriend also really liked it with some lemon iced tea.

  • Kelley says:

I had the new Bacardi Spice Oakheart tonight… I must say… it is fantastic!! It is smooth and has even more flavor than the old Bacardi Spice. I am sooo happy!

  • Kelley says:

I AM SOOOO HAPPY!!! I have loved Bacardi Spiced Rum for years and it was discontinued. I think it has such a great flavor! I have tried Captain Morgan, but it never hit that spot that Bacardi did. I can’t wait to try it. When I was a bartender, I changed the minds of so many customers when they did the blind taste test. Please give it a try…

  • Rich says:

Being a big fan of the Captain , I’m not a big fan of paying 18.99 for a bottle. So I seen the new Bacarrdi and loved it! My wife and I prefer it mixed with coke and she liked it too. I also loved the 9.99 price found at my local Stater Bros. I will make the switch even after its off sale…. Great job Bacarrdi !!

  • Keith says:

I took my cocktail mister and filled it with Madagascar Vanilla, sprayed my cocktail glass with it, added 1 oz of Oakheart and ice. Perfect. Then I tried it with cream soda. Next time it will be with Breckenridge Vanilla Porter.

  • Bertil says:

Bacardi had a very good spiced rum before but they stopped manufacture it. They said they sold too little.

  • Bob says:

Captain Morgan is made at the Myers rum factory. Which is neither a good or bad thing. However, Bacardi really has produced a delicious tasting spice rum with just the right amount of sweet and oak barrel notes. This one will sink the Captain. BE PART OF THE MUTINY!

  • Eric says:

Didn’t Bacardi have a spiced rum a few years ago?

  • Vincent says:

I tried Oakheart this past weekend, and I loved it! I first mixed it with coke, which was ok, but I tried it with ginger ale which just did it for me. I actually recommended it to all my friends. Great Job Bacardi!

  • jim duddleston says:

i have tried this rum on several occasions.the rum is very satisfying, and has great taste. i prefer it with pepsi.there is a very vanilla, peppery taste to it. to me it does not compare to capn morgan, kit surpasses it completely!

  • Thanks for the note, Nathan! We’ll try it shortly and report back with our findings. It’s disappointing that it seems so close to The Cap’n. I suppose I’m not surprised though since it’s a big seller and Bacardi’s biggest competition.

  • Nathan says:

Oakheart is already available here in Northern California, but I’ve been a bit skeptical of it. I’m afraid that Bicardi went the route they know makes money, and made a Captain Morgan clone.
