chinaco tequila

Chinaco Tequila hails from Tamaulipas, Mexico. If you thought tequilas only came from Jalisco, well, you’re mostly right. Because most do. But a few regions outside Jalisco, including Tamaulipas, are legally recognized by the Mexican government. This is all thanks to Chinaco Tequila founder Guillermo Gonzales who petitioned the government to allow production outside Jalisco. Quick history lesson accomplished, today Chinaco produces three 100% agave tequilas: a Blanco, Reposado and Anejo. We’ll start with the Blanco.

Chinaco Blanco Tequila pours crystal clear in the glass and greets you with a clean, inviting aroma of agave, pear and vanilla. There’s very little heat on the nose. It’s fresh and bright on the palate with a medium-bodied mouthfeel. There’s more agave, plus lime zest, florals, tropical fruits and mild spice. The spirit quickly moves toward a dry, easy-going finish for an overall package that’s exceedingly drinkable.

This tequila walks a finely balanced line between sweet and dry. It’s smooth and easy, but still maintains an earthy and savory quality that gives you something to chew on and think about. We like it. We’re always inclined to sip the better blancos, but there’s no reason you can’t mix this one into your favorite cocktails. Try a margarita, of course, or something that will let the complexity shine, like a Rosita.
