This week Johnnie Walker announced the U.S. release of Johnnie Walker Platinum Label Blended Scotch Whisky. This latest expression is a rich and refined, full-flavored 18 year old blend. The Platinum Label release pays homage to the Walker family tradition of crafting custom whiskeys for private gatherings. These were were never sold. But fortunately, this one will be, as it joins the permanent Johnnie Walker lineup.
Johnnie Walker calls the Platinum Label a “complex, delicate, smoky blend harboring deep layers of flavor that perfectly balance the diverse character of the distilleries from which it came and the wooden casks in which it has rested.” Sounds good to us.
Master Blender Jim Beveridge draws the whiskeys in this blend from a limited number of casks hand-selected from 20-25 distilleries. Each was chosen for its exceptional character.
You can skip the ice on this one, as the recommended serve for Johnnie Walker Platinum Label is neat or with a few drops of distilled water. The water unlocks the richness and releases a range of aromas, from tart tangerines to woody almonds.
Johnnie Walker Platinum Label is rolling out nationwide this month, and it carries a suggested retail price of $110. Not bad for an intricately-crafted, 18 year old Scotch.
