Over here at Cocktail Enthusiast headquarters, we’re really gearing up for National Coffee Day. Which is Saturday. Yesterday, we looked at some espresso cocktails, and today we’re diving into a trio of Kahlua Iced Coffees. Which come in cans.
Most bars, and lots of people, keep a bottle of Kahlua around for the occasional addition to coffee. Or for that one friend who drinks White Russians. But these 6.8 ounce cans are ready-to-drink Arabica coffee-based pre-mixed cocktails. And they come in three flavors.
Kahlua Iced Espresso
This one tastes the most like coffee. It’s sweet, but the dark coffee notes come through nicely. A bit of ice dials down the sweetness. I could see downing one of these before heading out for your evening. It tastes better than your average energy drink. And at 5% ABV, it’s about five times boozier.
Kahlua Cinnamon Spice
The spice notes are a solid touch, and they give the whole affair a hint of the holidays. That said, I still found myself wanting to pour this into some actual iced coffee to combat the sugar.
Kahlua Iced Mocha
This one’s pretty simple. You’ve got some chocolate-coffee notes, and that’s about it. But it’s probably my favorite of the bunch. And it’s surprisingly less sweet than the Cinnamon Spice.
The verdict: Eh, not bad. If you like Kahlua, you’ll probably like these. But I wanted to alter each one to tame the sugar. Of course, if you’re into sweeter-style beverages, these might do it for you.
For us, grab-and-go coffee beverages have great application when you’re late for work and running out the door. Or driving. But neither situation is well-suited to drinking alcohol. So we’re hard-pressed to see the need for Kahlua drinks in cans. That said, they could be good for parties, if you find a 750ml bottle too unwieldy to schlep around. Or, if you love Kahlua and would be interested in a variety of flavors, then keep some cans chilling in your fridge.
Each Kahlua Iced Coffee clocks in at 5% alcohol by volume per 200 ml can. They’ll cost you about $2.50 per can and $9.99 for a four-pack.
