If the machines become sentient and take over Earth, at least we can rest assured that there will still be cocktails.
Because the Tipsy Robot, a new bar staffed by drinks-slinging robots, opened today in—where else—Las Vegas. You can find this innovative concept inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
The Tipsy Robot doesn’t entirely replace the human bartender—there’s staff on hand for things like hospitality and tech support, and for those who prefer that human hands make their drinks. But otherwise, the bar features two cocktail-shaking robots. Customers can order one of the 18 signature cocktails through a digital tablet, or create a custom cocktail based on the spirits that are available. This includes instructing the robots to make drinks to your preferences, like adding an extra shot or going light on ice.
The two robots—more like robotic arms—mirror the actions of human bartenders. They mix, shake, pour and slice fruit, and each cocktail takes about 60-90 seconds from order time to completion. The liquor is sourced via measured pours from inverted bottles above the bar. And once your drink is properly mixed, the robots accurately pour that drink into a cup. Just don’t expect them to make change or charge your phone.
Somehow, this is only the first land-based robotic bar, as robot bartenders can also be found on select Royal Caribbean cruise ships.
If you’d like to visit, the Tipsy Robot is open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday–Thursday and 10 a.m. to midnight Friday–Saturday.
