Such drinks combine the best of both worlds, provided you appreciate the worlds of caffeine and liquor. And we’re confident you do. So below, we’ve got three coffee cocktail recipes that you can drink in their corresponding bars or try making at home. And because each drink is basically just a modified cup of joe, you don’t need to feel bad about imbibing before noon.
JACKIE BROWN
at La Moderna, Miami
1.5 oz tequila
1 oz single espresso
.5 oz Galliano Ristretto
.3 oz homemade spiced syrup (cinnamon, star anise, cloves)
Shake all the ingredient together and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a dusting of cinnamon and a single star anise, and serve with chocolate coffee beans.
NUEVA RECOLETA MARTINI
at PM Fish and Steak House, Miami
1 oz infused vanilla vodka
.25 oz Frangelico liqueur
.25 oz Kahlua
.25 oz Baileys
2 T coffee ice cream
1 oz espresso reduction
In a shaker, combine all ingredients and shake until mixed well. Pour into a chilled martini glass.
MOMMA’S BREAKFAST
at Sanctuary T, NYC
2 ounces Afrohead Briland 07 Rum
2 ounces cold-brewed coffee
1 ounce cinnamon-demerara syrup
3-4 dashes Fee Brothers’ Cardamom Bitters
Cloves
With a blowtorch on a cast-iron plate, burn a large pinch of cloves until smoking heavily. Quickly flip a chilled brandy snifter onto the smoking cloves. While the glass smokes, in a mixing tin, combine liquid ingredients and fill with ice. Shake hard and double-strain into the smoking glass.
