It’s pretty cold out there. For most of the country, at least. And when it’s pretty cold out there, one is forced to do things like wear sweaters and consume hot whiskey cocktails. This is chiefly about the latter. And for the occasion, we’ve found a trio of delightful tipples that’ll warm you up.

The first: a classic Irish Whiskey Sling we consumed while researching the wilds of Dallas, TX. And the others: a couple of easy-going holiday drinks from our pals at Alibi American Whiskey.

Hot Irish Whiskey Sling

3 oz Irish whiskey
1 teaspoon sugar syrup
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
Hot water
Nutmeg

Add whiskey, sugar and lemon to a toddy glass, then top with hot water. Stir and dust with nutmeg.

Maple Toddy

2 oz of Alibi American Whiskey
1/2 oz of Grade B maple syrup
3 oz hot water
Lemon wheel, studded with cloves
Cinnamon stick

Combine Alibi American Whiskey and maple syrup in a mason jar. Add hot water. Garnish with lemon wheel and cinnamon stick.

hot buttered whiskey

Hot Buttered Whiskey

1 stick butter
5 oz brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 oz Alibi American Whiskey
1 cinnamon stick
Boiling water
Star anise

Mix butter, brown sugar and spices in a bowl. Transfer batter into an air-tight container and refrigerate for at least an hour. Combine whiskey, two tablespoons of batter and hot water in a mason jar. Stir and garnish with the star anise and cinnamon stick.
