Laphroaig, makers of some fine Islay Scotch whiskies, recently announced the release of Laphroaig Càirdeas Port Wood Edition. This latest expression was originally produced in celebration of the island’s Feis Ile Festival, but they’ve made it available stateside. So that’s good news. The whisky derives its name from its aging process, which relies on port barrels to finish the spirit’s maturation. And if you’re wondering how it tastes, these fanciful tasting notes from Laphroaig might help:
Tasting Notes
Color: Antique gold.
Nose: Stewed rhubarb and peat that moves into vanilla ice cream and milk chocolate. Gentle cloves, minty and fresh. Then floral, with a hint of summer roses and orange marmalade.
Body: Full bodied with a smooth, creamy fullness.
Taste: Creamy and floral with a heavy saltiness and lasting liquorice root flavor.
Finish: Heavy charcoal mixed with lingering orange rind.
Laphroaig Càirdeas Port Wood Edition is available now in limited quantities at select retail location across the country. It clocks in at a hefty 102.6 proof and carries a suggested retail price of $74.99.
In other Laphroaig news, the brand is hosting Laphroaig Live on September 26. This is your chance to participate in a live-stream tasting with a panel of experts. Namely: Laphroaig Master Distiller John Campbell, Laphroaig Master Ambassador Simon Brooking, Bourbon Ambassador Adam Harris, Mixologist and Founder of Ward III, Michael Neff, and spirit enthusiast and GQ Web Editor, Kevin Sintumuang. They’ll be tasting a whisky quartet and will share their thoughts on each. The whiskies to be tasted include:

• Laphroaig Cairdeas Port Wood Edition
