balvenie tun 1509 scotch whisky

balvenie tun 1509 scotch whiskyThe Balvenie just announced the launch of two new whiskies in the US, each created by Malt Master David Stewart. Tun 1509 and the Single Barrel Traditional Oak, Aged 25 Years will both become available in select states later this month. Here’s the rundown on each.

The Balvenie Tun 1509
After releasing nine batches of the popular Tun 1401, The Balvenie has discontinued that expression and replaced it with the new Tun 1509. In crafting the first batch of Tun 1509, Stewart selected 42 of the finest casks — 35 traditional American oak barrels and seven European oak sherry butts — from the distillery’s aged stocks. From there, they entered the eponymous marrying vessel (this particular tun holds a hefty 8,000 liters) for several more months. Tun 1509 carries no age statement, and it’s bottled at 47.1% ABV.

The Balvenie Single Barrel Traditional Oak, Aged 25 Years
The Balvenie Single Barrel Traditional Oak, Aged 25 Years will complete the brand’s Single Barrel range and complement the flavor profiles of the 12yo First Fill and 15yo Sherry Cask expressions, which were released Spring 2013 and Spring 2014, respectively. This new whisky is drawn from a refilled American oak barrel, and no more than 300 hand-numbered bottles of the 47.8% ABV whisky will be drawn from a single cask.

Both expressions will appear in select states across the US beginning in late October.
