Today, International Women’s Day, is a great day for Appleton
Appleton Estate Joy Anniversary Blend is a limited-edition 25-year-old rum that’s comprised of two primary marques. The first was laid down to age in 1981, the year that Spence joined the Appleton Estate team, and the second is her favorite marque of pot still rum. From there, the blend is combined with other hand-selected rums to create a final product that is, in the words of the company: “impeccably balanced with subtle mellow oak notes. On the palate, Joy opens with Appleton Estate’s trademark delicate orange peel, leading into a delicious mix of ginger, spice, warm vanilla, butterscotch, and coffee, with lingering layers of almond and toasted oak…and with an exceptionally smooth finish of brown sugar.”
Two decades ago, Spence shattered the spirits industry’s glass ceiling when she was appointed the world’s first female Master Blender, a title that few women share 20 years later. So this rum is meant to commemorate Spence’s anniversary and pay homage to her years at Appleton Estate. It’s a fine tribute to the woman who has provided all of us with such fine rum throughout her impressive career.
Appleton Estate Joy Anniversary Blend is bottled at 90 proof and retails for $250.
