After riding its flagship bottle to success ever since it launched in 1992 as a softer-style bourbon, Basil Hayden has recently begun experimenting with interesting releases and finishes. Case in point: Basil Hayden Toast, Subtle Smoke, and Dark Rye. Now, there’s a new whiskey in the lineup.
Basil Hayden Red Wine Cask Finish sees Basil Hayden’s regular Kentucky straight bourbon blended with bourbon that was partially aged in California red wine casks. Eighth generation master distiller Freddie Noe crafted this whiskey with the aperitif-sipping occasion in mind, and it should appeal to whiskey and wine fans alike.
The vanilla and charred oak notes of classic Basil Hayden intertwine with flavors of dried fruit courtesy of the red wine casks. It’s rounded off with a warm, crisp finish. The spirit is layered and complex, but it still contains Basil Hayden’s trademark approachability and modest 40% ABV.
Basil Hayden Red Wine Cask Finish will arrive before the holidays on shelves nationwide. The limited-time release has a suggested price of $59.99.
