Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has done a lot of impressive things over the course of her career. But that highlight list has, until now, excluded launching her own spirits brand, a particularly popular hobby among celebrities. That’s just changed with the introduction of SirDavis, a new whiskey created in partnership with Moët Hennessy.
Turns out, Beyoncé is a Japanese whisky enthusiast, so she enlisted the team at Moët Hennessy to help her craft a specific flavor profile that reflected her ideal whiskey. The spirits house then tapped Dr. Bill Lumsden, one of the world’s best master distillers known for his work on Scotch whisky brands like Glenmorangie and Ardbeg, to lead the charge.
Lumsden selected the brand’s mash bill, a rare combination of 51% rye and 49% malted barley. He employed traditional whiskey-making techniques to achieve an elegant mouthfeel and texture reminiscent of Japanese and Scotch whiskies without losing the deep, robust flavors typical of classic American rye.
SirDavis is named in honor of Davis Hogue, Beyoncé’s paternal great-grandfather, who was a farmer and a moonshiner in the American South during Prohibition. This discovery inspired Beyoncé to create her own whiskey brand four generations later.
“I’ve always been drawn to the power and confidence I feel when drinking quality whisky and wanted to invite more people to experience that feeling,” said Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. “When I discovered that my great-grandfather had been a moonshine man, it felt like my love for whisky was fated. SirDavis is a way for me to pay homage to him, uniting us through a new shared legacy.”
SirDavis retails for $89 and is available to purchase on ReserveBar. Beginning in September, bottles will also be available at retail shops across the U.S. as well as in select airports, including LAX, JFK, and SFO, and in stores in London, Paris, and Tokyo.
