Everyone hoping for another Breaking Bad spinoff or the released of a hinted-at movie can keep waiting. But, in the meantime, they can drink a new mezcal from the show’s two stars. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul have just announced Dos Hombres Mezcal, their first foray into the world of celebrity booze. The announcement came via Paul’s Instagram, in which he noted that the two actors were eager to collaborate on something. This is that something.
Dos Hombres Mezcal is made from espadin agave and produced in San Luis del Rio, a small village in Oaxaca. Per the website, the agave is made using traditional techniques. The hearts of the agave plant are quartered, then cooked in earthen, hot stone pits covered with soil. After four days, they are then crushed with a tahona (a big stone wheel) to release the juice. From there, the liquid is left to ferment in open tanks for seven to 10 days before it’s distilled in a copper pot still.
According to Aaron Paul: “We searched high and low all over Oaxaca, met incredible people along the way and after a beautiful yet grueling search throughout that majestic landscape, we believed we may have found our place. Our mezcal. It was on a dirt-road, in tiny village, hours away from the center of town. We found it and it was perfect.” They say the mezcal has notes of apples, mangoes, a local fruit called zapote, wood, and smooth smoke.
The Dos Hombres guys join a line of celebrities who’ve recently launched, joined, or purchased spirits brands, including Ryan Reynolds (Aviation Gin), Bob Dylan (Heaven’s Door Tennessee Bourbon) and Metallica (Blackened Whiskey).
Dos Hombres Mezcal is available now in California and New York, and it can also be purchased online via ReserveBar.
