Distillery Hotels, Glenmorangie House
Glenmorangie House

Sometimes in life, you take a long walk for a short drink of water. Other times, you take a long flight for a short pour of whiskey. Or bourbon. Or gin. And, fortunately, some of those places will let you sleep one off upstairs if you’ve had a few too many pours.

Below are nine of our favorite boozy hotels around the globe that offer hospitality beyond the glass. Each has rooms available for booking, plus other amenities like restaurants and pools, to help you feel spirited away in more ways than one.

Glenmorangie House

Fearn by Tain, Tain IV20 1XP | United Kingdom

Rooms available: 2
Average nightly rate: starting at $360

Travel to the Scottish Highlands for the scotch and stay for the views of the rugged terrain and nearby ocean at the Glenmorangie House. The country house offers guests a real taste of Highland hospitality and easy access to one of the most famous scotch whisky distilleries just down the street.

The main building houses spacious rooms with modern amenities and is flanked by comfortable, cozy cottages. The restaurant features locally sourced ingredients in dishes complimented by the distillery’s single malts (don’t sleep on their passion fruit tart dressed in a house-made Glenmorangie 18-year-old sauce). And since Scotland’s other pride and joy is golf, they may even encourage you to drink and swing on the nearby links.

Distillery Inn

150 Main Street | Carbondale, Colorado

Rooms available: 5
Average nightly rate: starting at $259

A short drive from Aspen, the historic Distillery Inn is, according to their website, “the only inn in the world housed within a working distillery.” These five sustainable, luxury suites are the perfect juxtaposition against the rugged terrain of the surrounding Rockies. Guests can partake in Marble Distilling Company’s whiskeys, vodka, gingercello, and coffee liqueur on site. Oh, and bring your best friend, because this hotel is dog-friendly.

The Distillery

186 Portobello Road, Notting Hill | London, England

Rooms available: 3
Average nightly rate: starting at $160

Just a hop, sip, and a jump away from some of London’s best attractions, the Distillery hotel is housed in a building that has served drinks in some capacity since 1867. It’s also home to the on-site Portobello Road Distillery. The accommodations include three eclectic rooms with views of West London’s Portobello Road, a part of town known for its bustling flea market. Spend the day in The Ginstitute, a small but mighty gin museum, make your own bottle of gin, or enjoy their five-course immersive dining experience. Then walk right upstairs for a well-deserved rest.

It should be noted that, according to the property, visitors “are frequently bothered by the ghost of a nimble-fingered but clumsy bartender named Charles.” So, spirits and spirits… that should gin up some interest.

Bowmore Cottages at the Bowmore Distillery

The Square, Bowmore, PA42 7JR | Isle of Islay, Scotland

Rooms available: 12
Average nightly rate: starting at $90

Enjoy the best Scotland has to offer at The Bowmore Distillery’s Bowmore Cottages (five rooms) and the nearby Harbour Inn hotel (seven rooms). This traditional Islay distillery, the oldest on the island, has been making its smoky spirit for more than 240 years, and the charming distillery recently opened its doors to overnight guests in the renovated 1840s cottages and the inn across the street. The tranquil property offers booze enthusiasts the chance to sample spirits in Bowmore’s tasting room after a distillery tour, then enjoy traditional Scottish cuisine at the restaurant, Taste.

Pro tip: Book in advance to visit at the end of May when you can enjoy the week-long music and whisky festival, Feis Ile.

Jose Cuervo Solar de las Animas Hotel

Solar de las Animas Hotel

Hotel Solar de las Animas

Calle Ramón Corona, 86 Colonia Centro, 46400 | Tequila, Mexico

Rooms available: 93
Average nightly rate: starting at $160

Solar de las Animas, a Relais & Chateaux hotel, allows its tequila-loving guests to stay stumbling distance from the Jose Cuervo distillery. Enjoy a deep sleep in this hotel knowing you’re under the same roof as the largest tequila cellar in Latin America, which houses all of Jose Cuervo’s expressions.

But this luxury hotel nestled at the base of a volcano offers more than the chance to visit the distillery. Look for experiences like a round of golf at a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, horseback riding, hot air balloon rides, and even rappelling.

To make the agave taste even sweeter, getting there is part of the experience. Book a ticket on the Jose Cuervo Express, a train that will deliver guests from Guadalajara to the town of Tequila.

Historic Cavalier Hotel & Beach Club

4200 Atlantic Ave | Virginia Beach, Virginia

Rooms available: 85
Average nightly rate: starting at $199

Originally opened in 1927, the Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach, an Autograph Hotel, recently underwent a four year renovation that rang in just under $85M. The updated hotel is a stunner. Even better, the renovation included the addition of Tarnished Truth Distilling Company, a distillery that produces vodka, bourbon, and rye whiskey. Look for their spirits at the hotel bars, including the rustic Hunt Room, a bar with ocean views that allegedly served drinks through Prohibition.

Hacienda La Caravedo, Peru

Hacienda La Caravedo

Hacienda La Caravedo

Salas Guadalupe, Panamericana Sur alt. km 241 Fundo La Caravedo | Ica, Peru

Rooms available: 5
Average nightly rate: starting at $600

While enjoying the grandeur of the Andes mountains, you may need to pull over for a rest and a glass of Peru’s famous grape brandy, pisco. Because after the four-hour drive from Lima, you’ll need somewhere to recuperate—either from the exhaustion of the winding drive or one too many Pisco Sours.

Caravedo Pisco (formerly Pisco Portón) is distilled in “the oldest continuously operating distillery in the Americas,” Hacienda La Caravedo, which was established in 1684. Fortunately for us, the distiller wants to share his story (and home) with guests. Visitors can experience Peruvian hospitality in the guest bungalows on the vineyard’s grounds. Those guests are given access to a pool and bicycles or horses to explore the vineyards.

Ellinge Castle

Ellinge Castle

Ellinge Castle

Ellinge Gård, 241 93 | Eslöv, Sweden

Rooms available: 12
Average nightly rate: call to inquire

Nestled in a 12th century hotel, the Ellinge Castle shares land with Purity Vodka, a spirit made with wheat and malted barley. The distillery produces three vodkas distinguished by how many times they run through the still: 17 times, 34 times, or 51 times. Visit this small hotel with friends or rent the entire castle for a wedding, and you’ll have the chance to enjoy a formal library, lounge, patio, and garden along with tours of the castle and distillery. You can even take a cooking class.

Hotel DIstil Louisville

Hotel Distil

Hotel Distil

101 West Main Street | Louisville, Kentucky

Rooms available: 205
Average nightly rate: starting at $300

Opened in 2019 in what was once the home of the J.T.S. Browns and Sons barrel house in Louisville on Bourbon Row, this sexy hotel isn’t technically a distillery, but it may as well be. With a nightly toast to Repeal Day, barrel beds for your furry friends, and even the chance for an upgrade that offers an in-room decked out bar cart, Hotel Distil should be the go-to option for bourbon lovers.
