Milam & Greene, the distilling duo out of Blanco, Texas, has just released the first of its Texas Hill Country Limited Edition Series, a grain-to-glass straight bourbon whiskey, this past week in the midst of the pandemic. This first limited-edition bottle, a labor of love by the team with veteran Kentucky master distiller Marlene Holmes at the helm, is a fine example of what they dub “true American whiskey with a Texas heart.”
The 121.9 proof bourbon is surprisingly smooth for such a high-proof spirit. It was distilled in a 300-gallon pot still from a mashbill of 70% corn, 22% malted rye, and 8% malted barley, and has round notes of vanilla, nuts, and baking spices. We recommend this bourbon be sipped just as we tasted it—neat first, then opened up with a few drops of water.
Milam & Greene stormed onto the whiskey scene just over a year ago with their first bottles—a bourbon and a rye—made on-site from distillation to bottling. Still a young distillery, the bottles coming from their barrels are some of the best we’ve found in Texas.
This small release produced just seven barrels of the Distillery Edition Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Bottles can be reserved online and are available for pickup at the distillery
