flor de cana grand reserve rumFlor de Cana Grand Reserve is a 7-year old rum out of Nicaragua. Flor de Cana produces a range of rums, from an entry level 4-year expression to the 18-year Centenario Gold. Each rum is produced with molasses from sugar cane grown on a single estate, which provides consistency throughout the distillation process.

Flor de Cana Grand Reserve Rum has a reddish gold hue obtained from its seven years spent aging in American white oak barrels. It has aromas of molasses, fruit and some oaky char, and the taste is of sweet molasses, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. The flavors move toward dry oak on the finish with hints of pepper. It’s a pretty light-bodied rum, somewhat surprising considering the big aromas and deep molasses flavors.

Cocktail wise, it works well in an anejo daiquiri and a Papa Doble, giving each a richer, more complex base than a traditional white rum. Otherwise, it’s viable as a sipper, and it’s soft enough to be consumed neat.

Just bought some, a bit more “rough” and “darker” than Tommy Bahama which I have been drinking but not bad either. Nice easy buzz but Tommy is more to my liking.
