Woody Creek Distillers is a new distillery based in Colorado. After some construction, farming and producing spirits, they opened their 10,000 square foot facility in May. Woody Creek currently has one product on the market — their signature Potato Vodka — and five more are coming: Reserve Stobrawa Potato Vodka, Baby Bourbon, Gin, Apple Brandy and Pear Eau de Vie. The Potato Vodka recently crossed our desk, so let’s start with that.
Woody Creek Potato Vodka is made from just three ingredients — potatoes, water and yeast. On the nose, the spirit is clean and sweet. Drink up for more sweetness — hints of vanilla and buttercream — plus a silky smooth mouthfeel. It finishes very dry with a peppery kick. There’s definitely some life in this one.
The 100% potato base yields more flavor than many of the grain-based micro vodkas we’ve sampled recently. And the mouthfeel and finish lend some real character to this vodka and credibility to this fledgling distillery. We’re looking forward to Woody Creek’s upcoming releases.
