anCnoc is a single malt whisky hailing from the Knockdhu Distillery in the Highlands of Scotland. The 12 year old expression is the entry level whisky in the anCnoc lineup, with other whiskies including the 16, 22 and 35 year old expressions. Each is known for its light and easy-drinking qualities.
After distillation, the ancNoc 12 year Old Single Malt is aged in American and Spanish oak barrels that previously held bourbon and sherry, respectively. It pours a yellowish amber in the glass, and on the nose it’s full of fruit, honey, citrus and heather. Take a sip for some sweet tropical fruits and light oak character. There are notes from the bourbon casks (vanilla and caramel), plus some warming sherried fruit from the sherry casks. The mouthfeel is pretty light, with no discernible oiliness, and it finishes in a neat package of fruit and dry oak.
All in all, it’s pretty solid and exceedingly drinkable. Paired with a modest price tag, anCnoc 12 Year is an everyday dram kind of whisky. Not because it’s formulaic and uninteresting. But rather because it’s loaded with agreeable flavors and is easy on the palate.
