balblair 2000 scotch whisky

Located in the Scotland Highlands, the Balblair Distillery traces its roots back to 1790. One can learn a thing or two about distilling whisky over the course of 220-plus years. And for Balblair, the result is a handful of vintage-dated single malts, including the 2000 vintage detailed below.

Balblair 2000 Scotch Whisky starts with distillery manager John MacDonald selecting the best examples of Balblair from the stocks of maturing whiskies. Of the thousands of barrels sampled during the course of the year, MacDonald captures the best and bottles them as single malt vintages.

Balblair 2000 is bright gold in appearance and has aromas of fresh pears, green apples and honey. Take a sip to find a young and lively whisky with more honey, some mild coconut and vanilla notes from its aging in used bourbon casks. There are underlying floral hints, plus a spicy edge to round things out. The finish is long, clean and very warm, with more fruit and a trace of dry leather.

Balblair’s 2000 vintage is a solid expression. It’s somewhat rough around the edges, but never wanting for flavor. And with its reasonable price tag, this one’s a solid addition to your lineup of daily drams.
