Cazadores Café is a new coffee-infused tequila liqueur that’s ready to fill the Patron X.O. Café-shaped hole in your heart. It’s not the only game in town, but after Patron discontinued its popular product, there’s been a void in the market that Cazadores is now looking to fill. (Both companies are owned by Bacardi.)
Cazadores Café is created with the brand’s 100% agave blanco tequila. The raw agave juice is extracted from the harvested piñas via diffuser, rather than the more traditional method, which sees agave cooked in stone ovens before being crushed to extract the juice. In a unique step, the distillery plays Mozart during the long fermentation process. This is similar to the practice employed by Blackened Whiskey, which plays Metallica as the barrels age.
According to the brand, the classical music soothes the yeast and water particles to create the best possible taste for the tequila. Then, as the final step, they infuse the spirit with Mexican coffee and agave.
The resulting product has a deep brown color and flavors of richly roasted coffee, vanilla, and chocolate, with a subtle sweetness. Cazadores Café can be consumed as a shot, sipped over ice, or mixed into cocktails, like a twist on the Espresso Martini. In that case, the brand suggests mixing two ounces of Cazadores Café with two ounces of fresh brewed coffee (or one ounce of espresso). Shake with ice and serve up in a cocktail glass, garnished with three espresso beans.
Cazadores Café will be sold nationwide and is also available online. It’s bottled at 33% ABV and has a suggested retail price of $29.99 for a 750 mL bottle.
