plantation pineapple stiggins fancy rum

plantation pineapple stiggins fancy rumIt’s not often that a flavored rum grabs our attention, but in this case, yes. Because this one comes courtesy of Plantation, one of our favorite rum producers. And also because this one is Pineapple Stiggin’s Fancy Rum, a nineteenth century spirit favored by the likes of Charles Dickens. And here it’s been recreated by Maison Ferrand (the cognac house that owns Plantation) proprietor and master blender, Alexandre Gabriel, and everyone’s favorite booze historian, Dave Wondrich.

It goes like this:

The rinds of ripe Queen Victoria pineapples are infused with Plantation 3 Stars White Rum for one week and then distilled in pot stills. Separately, the flesh of the Queen Victoria pineapples are infused with Plantation Original Dark Rum for three months. Then those two liquids are married together, the synergistic rum is put into casks to rest for three more months, and there you have it: Pineapple Stiggin’s Fancy Rum. A flavored rum we can really get on board with.

We’ll be back with our review soon, but until then, here are the official tasting notes from Plantation.

TASTING NOTES
Delicious rich rum bouquet with a touch of smoke married with aromatic notes of tropical fruit, Pineapple, delicate citrus peel and a touch of clove. The palate reveals a full bodied rum with a satisfying mouth-feel of ripened banana, pineapple, spices and a smoky finish.

Plantation Pineapple Stiggins’ Fancy Rum is available now with a suggested retail price of $34.99. Look for it to be released twice each year–in April/May and July/August.
